Winterberg - Silbach

Not far across the border in Germany, about 300 km. from Utrecht, you find the village Silbach near Winterberg. Silbach lies at 565 meter high in one of Sauerland’s many valleys.

In former days it was an independent mine village called Bergfreiheit. Silbach is known for its silver, ore and slate mining. Today, this village of 900 inhabitants wears the designation Bundes-Gold Village.

It is an idyllic resort and has 2 restaurants and hotels. For the first necessities and daily fresh bread there is a small supermarket. At 2 km. you find the village Siedlinghausen with a wide range of shops.

In the winter season, when enough snow, you can descent from the Hillekopf. The children can sleigh to their heart’s content. There are also several tracks for cross-country skiers. More ski fun can be found in Winterberg, at 5 km.

During the summer, Silbach is a base for hiking and cycling. You find several mountain bike and hiking trails that will bring you to the most beautiful surroundings. Do not forget to visit the beautiful lake just outside Silbach.
